As a designated Level I Thoracic Surgery Centre<\/a> and a community teaching hospital with a dedicated Intensive Care Unit, the Thoracic Surgery Team at MGH<\/a>\u00a0provides expert consultation and surgical care to a large geographic area from the central and east part of the GTA to Barrie and its surrounding communities. The team has well-established partnerships with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Odette Cancer Centre, OCC), North York General Hospital (NYGH) and Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH). The Centre along with its partnerships provides thoracic surgical care in almost all areas of chest and foregut surgery whether cancer related or benign.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

Our partnerships and team structure allow us to provide our patients with outpatient care closer to home with our diagnostic assessment clinics at MGH, RVH and Odette Cancer Centre. We aim to minimize travel time, annoyances and cost to our patients and their loved ones.<\/p>\n

In partnership with our surgeons, a dedicated number of physicians (Intensivists, Respirologists and Anesthesiologists) in addition to dedicated allied health professionals (nurses, respiratory therapists, and physiotherapists) ensure care is comprehensive and collaborative.<\/p>\n

We have many ways for your doctor to refer you to one of the surgeons. Our Time to Treat program is a unique Diagnostic Assessment Unit recognized by Cancer Care Ontario<\/a> as in innovative program that helps patients navigate through their cancer journey.<\/p>\n

For other patients \u2013 referring to the Chest Centre will ensure you are seen in a timely fashion by one of our chest experts.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Our Time to Treat program has reduced the time it takes for patients to get to see a chest surgeon, to get their investigations completed and to get started on treatment.<\/p>\n

Our team is developing innovative ways using mobile apps<\/a> to keep you informed about your journey and gives you information on your mobile device that will help you recover from your surgery after you are discharged from hospital.<\/p>\n

The Chest Centre houses the Sleep Lab and Pulmonary Function Test lab (PFT lab) along with our respirology colleagues. This allows us to discuss and interact with multiple specialists to ensure you get all the necessary tests and consultations in a timely manner.<\/p>\n

We discuss our patient cases with our respirology colleagues almost daily and participate in Multidisciplinary Case Conferences at the Odette Cancer Centre and Royal Victoria Regional Cancer Centre weekly along with our Medical and Radiation Oncologists, Radiologists and Pathologists. This is all done to make sure you get the right care at the right time for the right problem.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>

Surgicentre<\/em><\/h1>\n

The Surgicentre<\/a> is another unique feature at MGH which allows patients to have their bronchoscopy, gastroscopy or other minor surgical procedure in a state-of-the-art facility, supported by our Department of Anesthesia to ensure a safe and comfortable diagnostic procedure.<\/p>\n

The Chest Centre has a new minor procedure room which houses our Pleural Effusion Clinic and allows us to perform some procedures on the same day as your visit that way patients don\u2019t need to come to several appointments for the same problem.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
